Your aim is to understand what makes attending dental appointments difficult for them.
You might start with: “What has made it difficult for you to attend the dentist in the past?”
Remember to:
- Ask plenty of open questions (it’s a conversation).
- Be empathic and non-judgemental
- Acknowledge and accept their experiences
- Let the patient lead the conversation
