Step 1: The Barrier Chat

This is your opportunity to build rapport and work with your patient to identify the barrier they would like to focus on in this session.

Your aim is to understand what makes attending dental appointments difficult for them. 

You might start with: “What has made it difficult for you to attend the dentist in the past?

Remember to:

  • Ask plenty of open questions (it’s a conversation).
  • Be empathic and non-judgemental
  • Acknowledge and accept their experiences
  • Let the patient lead the conversation

Once the patient has shared what feels important to them, click NEXT. Together you will choose the barrier the patient wants to focus on from the options on the next page.
