How Do People Change?

People usually change their behaviour voluntarily, not because they are told to.

Research shows that people are more likely to make changes when they:

  • Become concerned about the need for change
  • Are convinced the change will benefit them more than it will cost them
  • Can organise a plan of action that feels realistic
  • Feel committed to taking the next steps
  • This process takes time and looks different for each person
